Eddison's book isn't to everyone's taste, no. It is written in a prose style one hasn't seen much since the seventeenth century, which often takes some adjustment for modern readers. But if that doesn't throw you, you're in for one of the most marvelous reading experiences in all fantasy literature. It's a personal favorite of mine, and I've read the book probably eight or nine times in the past couple of decades (perhaps more). My suggestion: relax, let the splendor of the prose sweep you away, and you'll likely find yourself greatly enjoying the experience....
