Hi and welcome admathman. What sort of authors do you like reading. I'd be careful about asking for suggestions however as you'll have a reading list several miles longs. We are a very exhuberant croud here at Chronicles

Re: a new addition to the crouds

*muttering to self* when is the printer going to deliver that new edition of the newbie guide???

Ahem! Welcome to the Chronicles! I'll leave it to others to sort out your favorite authors, movies, music, etc., and chiefly concentrate on making certain you don't fall afoul of any of the ... um, more interesting places around here (at least, those for which we would surely not pass a safety inspection).

Avoid the basement... whatever Gollum says. Gollum's pets are always hungry. And then there's the cage over the boiling liquids...

The attic is currently safe, but check the bulletin board for updates. Don't mention feathers around the goblins... they have a tendency to get sticky about such things ... literally.

Colinaliban our jabberwock is very friendly, especially when provided with Belgian chocolate (or Rosie's Blackberry Brandy, I find). Incunabularishtar the Bandersnatch is very fond of Earl Grey tea (drop of cream, no sugar) and porridge (no cream, small pinch of salt). And the Phoenix is now in her splendor again, so feel free to admire. She loves the attention.

Watch out for the piranha pool in the front ... new addition, and no guardrail (or protective spell, he says, ruefully, remembering a very recent experience). So watch your step.

No leather around Wally unless you can spare it.

The Tea Room is open to all and sundry, as long as you behave in a moderately civilized fashion. Otherwise, there are the shoggoths....

Anyway, welcome and join in as you like ... it's a friendly, if not quite sane (by "normal" standards) bunch... and you'll find plenty of camaraderie and good spirits here (vinuous and otherwise).

Hello and welcome....

Re: a new addition to the crouds

what can I say to follow up that??

erm, hi!

I read the Otherland series too - I quite enjoyed it but will not spoil it for you. I hope you stick around and feel free to stick your nose in other parts of the forum (JD's warnings withstanding of course....)

Re: a new addition to the crouds

Hello, and welcome to this strange little place we call “home“ (when we’re not using other names for it) Geologically unstable, typographically uncertain, topologically improbable, gramatically unusual: this exclusive holiday destination offers variety and adventure.
The colourful indigenous inhabitants (and more recent arrivals who have “gone native” ) are friendly and tolerant (and cheap), local produce includes dragon egg specialities and well chewed leatherware. While practical jokes on newcomers are frequent, it is rare that more damage than the occasional lost limb is inflicted, and the medical center, profiting from both its fantasy “magic healer“ roots and science fiction “regeneration autodoc” roots (plus a great deal of practice) is getting exceedingly good at patching these up (check on your travel insurance policy that these services are covered). Many of the inhabitants either are, or can pass for, human, and practically all can understand a wide variety of English languages.
To get the most out of your visit, read the maximum number of threads and do feel free to give your opinions, however contraversial, whenever you happen to have any.
We wish you a pleasant visit, however long it might turn out to be (you did notice, did you not, there is no “return” portion of your ticket)

Heya, Admathman. What's an admath, by the way?

No pressure, but if you're in the mood, head over to the General Book Discussion forum, and drop in a vote for the Chronicles Hall of Fame!
