| Age Of Aurora episode 2 As I said the last time, Age of Aurora is a series of comedy-science fiction stories that me and a very good friend of mine have started writing and posting for free on our site. This is the first two pages of the second story (last time i made the mistake of posting an excerpt from the middle of the first story instead of the beginning), although I have deleted a line spoken by a character because it may not be very appropriate for a family friendly site.
This is a translation from the greek version of the story and since english is not our native language, we may have spelling or grammar mistakes that we cannot catch ourselves. That's where I think we need the most help but any other comments and criticism are wellcome.
Tomorrow I will post the full story on our site, hopefully without big mistakes. Quote:
Once again - as usual - the night was preparing to succeed the day in the part of the Republic that was known as Europe. The palace in the outskirts of Lisbon was full of details demonstrating the Portuguese marine supremacy during the later Middle Ages; nevertheless prince Ardene of the Republic had learned well the lesson that the attitude of the predecessors had taught him and let every type of arrogance only to embellish the walls. The monarchy on Earth, the colonies and the dependences worked fundamentally as a cohesive ring of humanity and as such it had passed in a state of religious ritual. Of course, many quarrel about God's existence, but no reasonable person could deny the existence of the emperor. Undeniably existent as he was, his family and himself, they were readily exposed in universal parasites of all sorts. However, nothing could prove more dangerous than a professional journalist.
The land beyond the sea continued to have in store surprises for the old as well as for the new-found worlds in the person of a cunning woman. Black skinned, blond haired, the journalist Jeprah Dregovic had always been source of revelation of tremendous scandals that deplored the republic for hours - and in a world of fast change and speedy flow of information this is quite an achievement.
Ardene brought the bowl of snacks and the water from the kitchen, two hundred metres down the corridor. Inara, in a perfectionist fury, placed the cushions in order on the leather couch, making mincingly room for him to sit. The prince took his place saying:
"You didn't let me do your hair well".
Instead of answering Inara uttered with dry voice a command to nowhere. In the space in front of the wall opposite, that remained white between the gold decorations of plaster, the computer made the picture of one of the greatest television networks appear.
"There are still ads on" the princess announced acrimoniously looking at her clock for a confirmation of the time.
"It starts any time now" Ardene appeased her putting his legs on the couch.
"This is by no means a comfortable couch".
"A gift by Eve Inc." Ardene replied indifferently "It's made of monachus monachus skin".
"Of seal skin? And an extinct one in deed?"
"They resurrected them. They had kept their genome and they did something, cloning and implantation of the foetus in an artificial uterus, something like that. Now I'm hearing they're trying to create a new species of mice as well!"
"For furniture-making purposes, too?"
"No, in order to damage the competition in the parasiticides market".
"Well, how do you know all these things?" she said admiringly.
"I read them in some documents of the secret services. I can't say the opposite, they proved very useful, I slept on the first page, without basically feeling sleepy".
"But where did you find those secret documents?"
"My teddy bear found them; he loves that sort of things".
Inara smiled with his "joke" and then, with an unsatisfied feeling she decided to change mood and approached her spouse catlike.
"A kiss my prince?"
"Be seated honey, it's starting now".
Indeed, in the space in front of the wall appeared a holographic television theme with lime green being the dominant colour and a musical soundtrack that subconsciously created a feeling of a marching enemy.
"Good evening to your Highnesses, live from our London studios, it's Jeprah Dregovic", announced the familiar soft male voice with fake enthusiasm, identifying the viewers via the spectating measurement intelligent system. The journalist appeared before them immediately, dressed in a blindingly red suit, seated behind a glass desk with a British country 3D replica in the background, as it was a few centuries ago. She appeared to be in a valley full of sheep that blissfully ate grass, while a greenish fence and a haystack on top of a certain low hill further away supplemented the picture.

"Ladies and gentlemen, together we will watch and analyze the event of the year. The marriage of the crown prince Ardene with the daughter of the French nobleman Marsel de la Strasse and the Canadian theatrical actress Yvonne Reerne, the young Inara de la Strasse".
The young woman said in a melancholic tone:
"At least they stopped the slander about my family".
"Of course, you are a member of the royal family now, the censorship doesn't allow them to say the same as they used to…" the heir commented.
"Not everybody agrees on the pair suiting each other, nevertheless, none would dispute the ceremony's magnificence. However, what is hiding behind the glitter and the lights? What dark secrets nobody wants us to know? We have discovered everything and you will watch it all after the break".
"This is it…" Ardene expressed while Inara bit nervously her upper lip.
