Re: AFFC take two I dont mind Brienne at all. In fact I amost mentally consider the "Adventures of Brienne and Pod" to be an almost separate story. Ive never gotten bored with her POV as its shown us the Seven Kingdoms in more detail than we would have gotten otherwise. Now that Arya is stuck overseas, Brienne has really taken her place as the POV to show us what is going on outside of the castles and inner circle of the Lord's affairs. But to each his own, everyone is going to have favorites!

Re: AFFC take two Brienne & Pod reminded me of a contemporary version of Dunk & Egg, but with some obvious differences. Interesting analogy though if Brienne is actually Dunk's great granddaughter or whatever.

Re: AFFC take two Thanks for having my back SW! Yes, GRRM wasnt really entirely happy with the compromise, but it was the best he could do given the circumstances. I think 10 years from now, when someone reads the series for the first time and has AFFC and ADWD available, the "half-book" nature wont be nearly as noticeable.

Re: AFFC take two Brienne's chapters in AFFC appear to me to be exactly the same as Arya's in ASOS - wandering around showing us the common folk. As such, it makes no sense to me to criticise them as 'boring' unless you regard Arya's chapters as 'boring' also. I mean, they're even both based around tomboys with swords! ![]() Trey: I think 10 years from now, when someone reads the series for the first time and has AFFC and ADWD available, the "half-book" nature wont be nearly as noticeable. I absolutely agree. I think the whole 'half-book' thing has been blown out of all proportion.

Re: AFFC take two I stopped about 1/2 the way through and read some other stuff. Got back to it on Saturday and absolutely devoured the last 1/2. I've never had a book benefit as much from a second read. It's really a pretty amazing piece of work.

And I'd love to see Martin's Magnum Opus on "Bible" paper... in fact, I'd love Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, and Shogun on "Bible" paper. | |

Re: AFFC take two F'ing Shogun rocks! I too will cut and shuffle the 2 after ADWD comes out. I do plan to leave some of the POV sections out though (B's being one of them) so hopefully my new book will come in under 1400.
