On further thought I have to say that whether Cybermen are supposed to be sucked through the wall is not clear. On the one hand, The Doctor doesn't make any distinction between Dalek or Cybermen. He describes what is going to happen to anyone with Void stuff dripping off them. After all, The Doctor and Rose used the TARDIS, the Daleks used the Void Ship and the Cybermen used the breach to crossover. It doesn't seem logical that The Doctor, Rose and the Daleks would be sucked into the breach and not the Cybermen. And in the visual shots it does appear that the Cybermen are vaccuumed from the surface of the Earth, not just dematerialized. It wouldn't be so confusing if they hadn't included that shot of the "ghosts" vanishing in place in the first episode, but they did. BUT the shots of the building and room only show Daleks crossing over and it is physically impossible to pass 5 million Cybermen through that space in the time permitted. SO who knows? It seems that they may have sacrificed any clarity for the sake of a good picture. After all, the sight of dozens of Cybermen being yanked into the air and swept away is much more dramatic than just disappearing. But it does confuse the issue about the method they are Void-ified.

OK - so the ending was a little bit mushy - taken in the context of the kind of Dr Who we've all grown up with back in the 70's and 80's but.......this is a different kind of Dr Who and in the grand scheme of things I was happy with it. This Doctor IS different from the others, his feelings for his companions are obvious, even down to explaining everything to Sarah Jane in the earlier ep, he clearly had the feelings there for her to. I'm not saying romantic feelings, but love - and thats ok with me. There were some little nits and my husband said to me, what about the alternative Doctor, why wasn't he there and how could Torchwood have been created if that initial meeting with Queen Vicky didn't happen. anyway, looking forward to the Christmas special, tho nearly fell of my chain when I realised it was Catherine Tate ! I love her shows - my problem is, looking so like her as I do, I get the catchphrases yelled at me all the time so in the end I just say them first!

[Originally posted by Brit Chick: Will try my best to work out how to post it as a "blank" spoiler!] If you're in a spoiler thread, Brit Chick feel free to drop the spoiler tags entirely. In the spoiler threads no info is barred, but you have to be prepared to find out things you might not want to know in advance. Since the beginning, one of the things about Doctor Who that has kept me an avid fan is the surprises. So for me spoilers really are just that. One of the worst moments of the new shows in my opinion was the first Cybermen episode when they put Cybermen in the title and then spent a half-hour being coy about showing them, as if they were building suspense about who was the bad guy. And don't get me started about "Dalek"! I hate when the show does its own spoilers. I realize that everyone in the UK might know what's going to happen in big terms, but all of that buzz ends at the water's edge. I think that Doctor Who is the best show on television today but the rest of the world just hasn't picked up the hue & cry, yet. I've seen too much of the same old formulas over and over again. I love Doctor Who because I don't know what's about to happen.

It has reflections of Hans Zarkov in Flash Gordon (the movie) overcoming the Mongo mind control by repeating song lyrics and Shakespeare plays, and in ST:TOS (Spectre of the Gun) where Spock has all the party concentrate on believing that nothing is real... etc. But, after all that, it doesn't quite add up...

Re: the last episode??? realy??? Did you also notice the black dalek instructing himself to timeshift and disappear before the rest were dragged into the nothing..... That can mean only one thing, the daleks in one format or another will return...

Re: the last episode??? realy??? I thought it was a fantastic episode...Oh and I had a tear in my eye aswell...So don't worry about it!!... As for Billie's departure...RTD and co knew from the beginning of the second series' planning that Billie'd be going at the end...She'd decided to go at the end of the first series but they'd convinced her to carry on for one more as the departure of both Doctor and companion would have been too much of a shock to carry on from...
