| Anyone seen ROTK yet? The first night of Christmas break, (which is yesterday) I went to see the movie. It's beyond the desciption of "excellent"! Peter Jackson I love you!But how can they skip the part of the House of Healing????I mean Aragorn has to save everybody and gave the people of Minas Tirith a good impression of their King. anyway...... the speech of Aragorn to the Captains of the West before the Black Gate was brilliant! I couldn't get all of the words from the trailer so I just put some as my signature.........if someone could gave me the full speech it would be great! so what are your opinion of the movie? |

| Re: Anyone seen ROTK yet? Saw it and loved it. And Brian, you really need to see the battle scenes on a large screen with digital surround sound. They are very intense, fast-paced and visual. I don't believe you will get the same feeling if you see it for the first time on a tv. |

OK, here goes: Don't go! Don't waste your time - you KNOW the movie in your head is so much better.... Actually, I haven't seen any of the movies. It's not that I think they will be bad, but it really is because I have a very vivid picture of everything in my head, and I don't want to dilute that with what is probably going to become the consensual vision of Middle Earth for this generation.

| Re: Anyone seen ROTK yet? To each his/her own! I personally enjoy seeing a different vision - I don't let it interfere with my own, but it is nice to see what someone else was seeing while they read it. I will say that my personal vision is why I disagreed with his choices for Arwen and Aragorn but that is a petty nit. It hasn't dimmed my liking of the books either. I plan on getting my own personal hardback copies (since I've destroyed all of my paperback ones by re-reading them over and over) at some point when I've got the money, and continuing to enjoy them. |

![]() Well then. LOTR: ROTK is quite possibly the sh*test movie ever to grace the cinema screens. It was quite clearly an attempt by some f*cking idoit with a dodgy copy of 3D Studio Max to try and recreate the Fantasy epic "The Holy Grail" only he forgot the shrubbery: f*cking moron! Robbing from such classics as "Army of Darkness" the fight scenes are hugely impersonal. The audience wants to see one on one fist fighting like in Knight Rider, not 20'000 men in a battle. Thats not very intimate now is it! Kit and Michael never needed an Army of the dead now did they. And it just goes on too long, Michaels arrogant ego would have finished off the will of Sauron in 45 minutes, and we could all have got home in time for our dose of "American Gladiators". The script writing is terrible too, the film has a distinct end, but what about character building etc, the whole thing just seems to just randomly start in the middle of an adventure! I'd really give this one a miss if I were you Brian, try something that really strikes you as new and interesting instead, that new "Last Samurai" film where the last Samurai is randomly (and completely unoffensively) a four foot six american chap (who's an ex-NASCAR champ and fighter pilot) might be far more appealing to you than this piece of sh*t movie! Happy? ![]()

| Re: Anyone seen ROTK yet? Okay, I finally got to see it - and I thoroughly enjoyed it. ![]() (See - that's what happens when you go with no great expectations!) ![]() Frankly, Two Towers bored the heck out of me, and I was worried that the battling in ROTK would drawl out into one long meaningless experience (like the action in Matrix III did). But it was a really great movie - enjoyed it lots. And I was so relieved that they cut the "scouring of the Shire" out of the cinema version - they kept the ending pretty succinct - far more than in the book, which seemed necessary on the silver screen. Just maybe I'll grow to like Two Towers when I watch it on DVD - that's happened before - for example, I enjoyed Star Wars 2 Attack of the Clones at cinema, but when I got to watch it at home it was just a bit of a joke. Maybe the reverse will happen with Two Towers? Either way, my faith in the trilogy is restored - if/when the money situation improves this I'll look to start buying the extended versions. ![]() |

| Re: Anyone seen ROTK yet? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. So glad you saw it before I posted this, Brian, as I wouldn't have been able to properly discourage you so you would just go see it.I, too, saw it on New Year's Day - a nice surprise from a friend, as I had been planning on spending the day in out of the rain. I was a little hesitant to see it, since I still haven't seen the second installment (and I've still not read the books). But...it was wonderful. I want to see it again now, so I can see what I didn't catch the first time. I just have no words - it was so grand. I think my favorite part was at the end when the hobbits bow to Aragorn and he tells them that they must bow to no one, and everyone bows to them. Or was it when Aragorn and the others go off to gather the ghost army and finally takes ownership of his kingship? Maybe that was the best part. Or...or...or...heck, I liked it all. I do have to report, embarassingly, that I did talk to the screen at one point, a little more loudly than I had intended, so that the people around me could hear. It was when Sam attacks Gollum, and Gollum asks what he ever did to Sam to deserve being attacked. Before I knew it, "Well, to begin with you called him fat!" came out of my mouth. Oops. I couldn't help it. Sam is one of my favorite characters. But, yes, I saw it, finally. Glad we went to the first showing, though. The theatre wasn't quite full. As we were leaving, it looked like there were more people lined up for the next showing in that auditorium (it is showing on three or four screens in that theatre) than it actually has room to accomodate. |

| Re: Anyone seen ROTK yet? LOL!! Didn't happen with the LOTR films - but there have been other films where I've only just stopped myself at the last moment from yelling out to the cinema screen. ![]() |

completely full. Something happened on the screen that I found completely hilarious. Apparently I was the only one who did, because I was the only person who laughed - quite out loud - in the whole stinking auditorium. Talk about embarassed.
