I tried to read the book to see if the movie'd be worth going to. (Jeremy Irons caught my attention.) I couldn't get past the first 5 pages or so. The story, the style, everything turned me off and sent me running for other fav.s in the kids' section. (The Thief by M.W. Turner was my choice, I think.) Those who mucked through the rest have my deepest sympathy.
