No, the worst case scenario is not that some idiot who hadn't read the rules would argue with that one, but that good people much like yourself would be inclined to revive the discussion, again and again and again. Dropping a warning in the thread and keeping it open would be as good as issuing them an invitation to do so. And then when we closed the thread, they would feel we had closed the thread on them, not on the person who originally started it.

Everyone had a chance to discuss this. There has been more than one thread on the subject. We don't need to keep reviving it with every new thread by a brand new member. Personally, I'd rather not see it revived here. The whole thing has been thrashed out so many times, already. Let's give it some time and see how the rule works (or doesn't work) before tinkering with it. That would just lead to confusion and more discussion.

Your concerns are noted, and I appreciate your good intentions, but we aren't even considering changing the rule at this time. If we decide to review it at some time in the future, we will keep your thoughts in mind.

Re: Terms of Use

If I can interject my thoughts on this at all, I supported the mods' decision back when it was made and I support it now. When the subject first arose, I was one who called for the rule change due to the fact that in my then 2.5 years here I've seen plenty of members come by, drop a wall of text, then vanish like ghosts. And you all have to remember, that each account on here adds to the data load the server carries. Ideally I would actually call for the deletion of such threads to help conserve memory space, but that really is too harsh and discouraging to those who want to become true, full-fledged members of the site.

Re: Terms of Use

Entirely fair enough Teresa. I was not not putting in a complaint or anything, and not really looking for change; I much prefer the new system to the old. Boneman got me thinking, thats all. Fiddling, honing, interfering - for what do we live, but to make sport for our moderators?

Re: Terms of Use

Is not the whole joy of this website that it is for and about people who respect the power of words?

Okay. I won't set fire too the monkies or the trees. I'll glue the monkesy to the ground with super glue instead. Or maybe I could dump tomatoe sauce all over the trees and monkeys. Hmm.

Re: Terms of Use

In the meantime, this thread was posted simply to make the rules clear - I think there's little to be gained by continuing it as a discussion thread, therefore I'll close it now.

Any specific points about the rules and queries can be posted in the feedback section.
