That's the thing though, Tanga - the horse, far from being moribund, is frisking around in the paddock, kicking its heels up.
The thing is, that there appears to be an insatiable demand for more and more
"Star Wars" related stuff, and where there is a demand, there must also be a supply,
viz all the books, comics, animations, etc. And as each new generation comes to the films, they also want more and more as well.
I don't personally read or watch any of them, but the fact of their existence doesn't spoil my enjoyment of the original films one whit.
