Looking for new authors Greetings All, I was wondering if anyone could point me to some authors in a particular genre. I've recently been enjoing books dealing with vampires, werewolves, witches, and the supernatural. I started with Laurell Hamilton and the Anita Blake series, but got tired of the "romance" aspect of her books. If i want porno, that's what the Internet is for (LOL, laughing at my own wit!). So then i read: Kim Harrison and her Rachel Morgan series. Barb and JC Hendee and their Dhampir series. Carrie Vaughn and the Kitty Norville series. Nina Kiriki Hoffman, "A Fistful of Sky." Patricia Briggs, "Moon Called." A lot of the authors in this genre seem to be linked with romance novels, which i detest. Can anyone suggest some authors who write in this style but tend to leave out the prolonged, passionate lovemaking? Tau Zero

Re: Looking for new authors Best Vampire novel I've read is George RR Martin's "Fevre Dreams". Excellent book. Mind you, considering the archetypes of that particular sub-genre, you'll be hard put to find many without "lovemaking" ![]()

Re: Looking for new authors I understand how you feel. I stopped readin at the 6th Anita Blake book. I'm just not that interested in all the heavy handed romance/eroticism. You might try Nightlife by Rob Thurman. It didn't have much in the way of florid romance.

Re: Looking for new authors You might try Kelley Armstrong. Start out with bitten. If you go to her website, she has some short stories/novellas that you can read online. Then if you like her, buy her books. ![]()

Re: Looking for new authors Just finished 'Child of Saturn' by our very own Teresa Edgerton. This puts a very different spin on werewolves, and includes a very cunning witch. I'd say this fits very squarely into what you're looking for. 'Child of Saturn' is the first of 'The Green Lion Trilogy'. I'm guessing it's out of print, but if you scour the internet hard enough, I'm sure you could pick up a copy.

Re: Looking for new authors I second the recommendation for Kelley Armstrong's books - I own the whole collection! I also have just ordered a copy of Teresa Edgerton's book on numerous recommendations.

Re: Looking for new authors If you've no problems with anthologies or collections of short stories, I could also suggest (though you'd probably have to do them through libraries) The Man-Wolf by Emile Erckmann and Alexandre Chatrian, or Bill Pronzini's anthology, Werewolf! There's also Gerald Biss's The Door of the Unreal, a tale of lycanthropy, that has recently been brought back into print by Ash-Tree press in trade pb. For pulpish werewolf tales, Manly Wade Wellman's Tales of the Werewolf Clan, reprinted by Donald M. Grant several years ago (originally published in Weird Tales), are enjoyable. And Charles L. Grant wrote a werewolf novel set in his Oxrun Station, The Dark Cry of the Moon. Don't know if any of this is what you're looking for, but it's what comes to mind right off.
