![]() Honestly, there's tons of work out there that is stereotypical, cliche, archetypal, etc. When a series reaches a certain level of popularity, it garners a larger number of responses, both positive and negative. There are certainly novels out there that commit the same atrocities and are written by more experienced authors that should know better. But, as I said, I still enjoyed the book for what it was, rather than harp on it for its faults.

| Re: Eragon i do agree that the was eragon was marketed and published was a complete farce, but i still enjoyed the books and will probably read them again i did notice the huge amount of similarities between eragon and anne mccaffreys pern series - which did really pee me off to start with because i'm a huge fan of anne mccaffrey, but like i said, i try not to compare books - even if he did steal plots and storylines and should, you know, be shot for it, i still enjoy the books hehe |

| Re: Eragon It involves a complicated ritual. First I perform the ceromonial cursing (literally, I just get very vulgar). Second I make the journey from the recliner to the kitchen. Next I perform the secret stomp on the bottom of the trash can, which magically opens the top. Last I cast down the bad book into the smelly depths. Then I go re-read something that doesn't suck to get the taste out of my mouth. |

But then, the excessive world building is what most fans love. I love robust characterization paired with a fast plot through a world that is built up as much as it is needed to be. LOTR is still ranked way up there as far as my favorite series, but it does drag.

| Re: Eragon :O ok i am disappointed that he never made up the language... I was sure he said somewhere that him and his sister, Angela, made up the language... *quickly peruses Paolini's website Eragon, Book One of the Inheritance Trilogy, by Christopher Paolini ...* "I’ve always been fascinated with the sources of most modern fantasy that lie in Teutonic, Scandinavian, and Old Norse history. This is disregarding a large chunk of writing devoted to the myths from the British Isles. Because of this, I used Old Norse as the basis for my Elven language in Eragon, as well as many names. All the Dwarf and Urgal words, however, are of my own invention." eeee the cheek! ... i still think it's a good book though, so i will reread it again and again and enjoy it :P |
