That would be pretty hard I would think. This is just one post, Common is long winded all the time , or almost always. Quote:
So in the end what I am really trying to say is: Its not only the young authers that suffer here. Its the Tolkien fans as well. Unfortunately for me, I fall into both catagories. Thats really the main reasons I hate Eragon. I will, however, read the last book, just to see if he gets any better or if he just uses more plagiarism then in the others. Sorry if I offened anyone in this post. I do not mean anything by it. Man that took me a while to write. | ||

| Re: Eragon That would be pretty hard I would think. This is just one post, Common is long winded all the time , or almost always. Wow, I've already got a reputation. I'm just glad I don't carry on that much in my fiction. Edit: I'm going to keep those incorrect tags there, just to show everyone how completely tired I am (and to further prove how long-winded I am) |

| The Wicked Sword Maiden | Re: Eragon In the end though, does it really matter what age Paolini was when he wrote the book or how many people compare it to Tolkein or other famous authors? Does it really matter if he didn't have to work so hard as other authors? The only thing I would agree with is the attitude of the marketing stratagy. It might have too many cliche's but as an adult I still enjoyed the story. |

| Re: Eragon i try not to compare books and authors - there's always something you can say one author stole from another author if you look really hard I thought Eragon was a really good book, so was Eldest, and I'm now waiting for the 3rd one to come out I think really people should say what their own opinion is, but don't say it like everyone should agree - what one person loves, another one will hate... I suppose that makes life more interesting, but just because some people don't like the book, it doesn't mean that nobody does or should |

| Re: Eragon besides, jk rowling doesn't really like fantasy, does she? she's always putting it down, from what i can gather, so i don't think she'd have read it, or know anything about it to even need to copy it. |

| Re: Eragon I would say JKR is fantasy to people that dont read fantasy. Which is an ignorance stance, looking down on a genre only cause you see a YA book that is overhyped. Here in sweden JKR is the most mainstream to people that dont read fantasy or even books thanks to Harry Potter. Paolini is pretty unknown here, he is known only to fantasy readers and YA readers. He isnt known to everybody like JR. The only person to ever say a good thing about his books to me is my little younger brother that likes Eragon despite he too thinks its too clichè Last edited by Connavar; 16th April 2007 at 05:02 PM.. |

| Re: Eragon is it just me here, but does it seem your friends don't read. period. over here in wales, people look down on me 'coz i'm always reading in school, books that isn't forced upon them for their subject plenty of them, when i asked, did indeed compare Eragon (film) to be better than LOTR (book and film), which i am disgusted at. and very few have read harry potter, due to the above mentioned reason of the subject of English forcing them to read it in years 7 and 8. (sorry yanks don't know how that relates to your system, but it is quite literally the 7th and 8th year of school) i have just started to read pern (:O i know i'm a bit slow) and i have found shocking similarities to the book and the inheritance trilogy. to be honest i think Eragon should never have been properly published except on a fanfic site somewhere because it is just that, a fanfic, containing blaringly obvious references to ther books and cliches from them as well, i also found a little amusement in the fact that in Eldest theres a quote lifted directly from Tron about half way through, i only realised 'coz i watch Tron 'bout an hour before i began reading eldest. My God i have become long-winded haven't i. DAMN YOU COMMONMIND!!!! |
