I think if the events happen far enough apart, even fairly dense readers should get a difference of 20 years in the date. I'm going for exactly the same variant of flashbacks, and I'm still debating whether to give the time stamps at all (doesn't work quite as well in a fantasy context, I think), because mostly, it should be clear from context -- at least once the reader gets it, which is the whole point of my story. |
