Another problem is that she seems to be held in too high regard by editors. Most books she's written since 1990 (with the notable exception of Pegasus in Space) could do with a lot of quite heavy-handed editing. This is especially true of Skies of Pern and Freedom's Ransom. Both books read like clumsy first drafts. A shame really, given what a talented writer she was at her best. |
