Writing your "autobiography" for submissions

Apologies if this has been asked before - did try a couple of searches but couldn't find anything - probably the wrong search term

When submitting books, some agents/editors are looking for biographical information.
  • Where it is a few lines in the covering letter, then it will clearly be in the first person.
  • Where more information is being sought, to the level where you'd probably write it as a separate half page, would it read better in the third person and in the style of a press release?
