One of the simple pleasures of being a newbie is the ability to bump old threads without any guilt.

Hobb is easily about my fourth, lol, fantasy writer of all time. To this point anyway.

They should be read in order though. Reading Liveship Trader before reading The Wayfarer Redemtion isn't the way to go about it.

Nighteyes, and "having pack" ends up being one of the most emotionally effective vehicles ever used in fantasy.

is the Wayfarer Redemtion a Sara Douglass book? Farseer, Wayfarer, I think I've made that mistake too

I absolutely adored the Liveship series, couldn't put the third book down as all the action came to the finale. I haven't read the Assassin books yet but will get round to them at some point hopefully.

I am reading Assassin's Quest at the minute and the books have got better and better through the series its just there not as gritty as say David Gemmell, who is a legend when it comes to heroic fantasy.

Hobb's nine book series rates as amongst the most engrossing series I have ever read and I have read quite a few. I still rank it first among my favourites and recommend it to anyone who likes a well thought out series with excellent characterization and a superb plot.

Yes, I think they are worth it, but I could only read them once since they were a bit too sad and bleak for me.

Hobb's books are very readable and enjoyable, although the last one just doesn't make me want to purchase it. Don't ask me why, I just read the blurb and put it back on the shelf. If anyone's read it and enjoyed it, please let me know.

Definitely very readable, even if I don't like Fitz much - far too whiny! That's why I prefer the Liveship Traders, because he isn't in them.

If you like first person written at its best, then follow the adventures of Fitzy. Simply beautiful.

I was delightfully introduced to Hobb's style of writing (I agree that it is more character-based than plot based) with a book of hers called "Shaman's Crossing," which I found very difficult to put down. I'd definitely recommend it.
