That's specialised vocabulary. And yes, people's vocabularies change according to their context.
However... I was referring to their
entire vocabulary. Say someone said to me, "The weather is vacillating today." I'd know what they meant. And "vacillate" is a word I might use when writing. But it's not one I'd use myself in conversation.
