By all means - get ye to Chewandswallow. I hear there's a chicken soup front moving in from the south.

Re: The Random Thoughts Thread

I just lost power for about an hour and was forced to read part of John Wyndham "The Chrysalids" because I had it on my battery powered backlit Palm Pilot. Very interesting.

Re: The Random Thoughts Thread

That was my first encounter with Wyndham's fiction (as written -- I'd seen that rubbishy Day of the Triffids film even earlier) when I was, um, about 11 years old, as I recall -- I found it in an intermediate school library, under the American title of "Re-Birth", in Anthony Boucher's A Treasury of Great Science Fiction, vol. 1. The major part of the book was awfully close to home, in a lot of ways, and gave me the first idea that I was not alone (or nuts) about my difficulties with extreme orthodoxy and dogmata; but because it hit so close to home, it scared the bejeezus out of me...

Still, though I recognize some faults in the book, I would highly recommend it to anyone as a very well done story, with an intensely realized setting at the very least.

Good to see the literary giant is at large again, wonder if he's finished off the last of Perdido S.S. yet?...

OK, I'm going to get some shut eye now, so you all have a nice evening...

Nighty night.

Sometimes, I think it's important for us to realize and find solace in the fact that some questions don't have any answers.

Haha, awesome, smiling weirwood. I LOVE the Thundercats. Once, when I was sick, I watched almost the entire first season. Quality show.

That Hushovd incident in the Tour de France was, hands down, the WORST paper cut I've ever seen. Crazy fan.

Re: The Random Thoughts Thread

I thought that was more along the lines of a cardboard or cardstock cut, which is always worse. But, yeah. Lots of blood. And you're right about the crazy fans.

I don't want to go to work. I want to go back to sleep and spend quality time with my cat.

Um, I've missed something. Cardboard fans? Cutting someone with a fan? I've heard of a fan club (presumably for beating cyclists to death) but a fan sword? And if the excreted solids hit it?

Re: The Random Thoughts Thread

Welcome to express lifts, descent to floor sixteen. You will be going down two thousand, five hundred and sixty-seven floors and, for a small extra charge, you can enjoy the in-lift movie 'Gone With the Wind'. If you look to your right and to your left, you will notice there are no exits. In the highly unlikely event of the lift having to make a crash-landing, death is certain. Under your seats you will find a cassette for recording your last-minute testament, and from above your head a bag will drop containing sedatives and cyanide capsules.

If it's an elevator in the US and a Lift in England then if it's a ski Lift in the US is it a ski Elevator in England?
