| Re: The Random Thoughts Thread I used to eat a dish that we called "cat meat pie", although I hasten to add that there was no specifically-cat-related food in it. (Or any cat, for that matter.) |

| Re: The Random Thoughts Thread Minced meat out of a can (of a specific brand). A small tin would provide enough filling for a pie that would be cooked on 22cm** or so plate. It wasn't very substantial (unless you ate it all yourself), but it tasted nice, as I recall. For those of you in the UK, I'll give a clue as to the brand: "This is not just mince meat in a can, it's...." ** - It might be smaller than this. I can't recall exactly |

When I was about 6, my brother won a chick at a school fair. We called the chick Okkie. (A man in our town named Okkie van Sensie was a well-known long-distance walker.) Okkie followed us everywhere and was a lovely little chap. Sadly, my dad accidentally stepped on him one day and Okkie went to chicken heaven. To this day I think chickens make great pets.

I get very emotional over animal deaths. One time, when I was about 7, I rescued an injured pigeon from a group of boys who were tormenting the poor thing. I took the pigeon home and informed my mother that we were going to nurse it back to health. My brother was roped in to help make a comfortable bed for it, with food and water nearby so pigeon wouldn't have to make much of an effort. The next morning my mom told me the pigeon had recovered and left. It wasn't until years later I figured out that the poor thing had died during the night and my family was too scared to tell me. They knew major waterworks would have ensued.

| Re: The Random Thoughts Thread Aren't all thoughts random? Who knows what causes neurons to fire in a certain synapse and not another? And if we did know what caused it and could manipulate them to fire in a certain pattern and make people think a certain thought who would need paid advertising? |

| Destroyer of Words | Re: The Random Thoughts Thread I think your parents were very thoughtful about it, and I'm sure you felt comforted by the deception when you were a child. Besides, you say you "figured out" that it had died in the night ... you might still be wrong about that ![]() Quote:
![]() I think there's a thread around here somewhere about that
