One more comment seems necessary before I go (and I really will go this time, honest, I need sleep).

Right, a little background information. In my house, all the landing lights, on all three floors, are controlled by one switch downstairs. When you turn this off, the main lights go off, but for about half an hour longer, some much dimmer backup lights come on.

Seeing as I'm pretty much always the last one to go to sleep at night, and as I'm only on the second floor, I patter on down and turn them off. But the backup lights in the hallway flicker. As in flicker a lot, really flickering-lights-from-a-horror-film type flickering. One day I know an axe-murderer or a zombie is going to come up the stairs behind me.

But it's all right, I've got eighteen years of many, many horror films under my belt. I know what to do.

Scream like a girl and run upstairs.

[Or grab a heavy, blunt object and knock their killer/dead butt back down those stairs...]
