Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

I'm gutted about Phil Jagielka's injury to be honest. Not only because he used to be a Blade but because he's an outstanding football player and solid at both centre back and right back. Better than both Johnson and Lescott by far. Hopefully he'll still be given a chance come the World Cup.

There is no way the slow, weaker Jagielka is better than Lescott. Dont you remember what David Villa did easily to him....

Lescott is top 5 PL central defender that many top teams want to buy. No top team would buy Jagielka.

Is that why the majority of Everton fans I speak to say Jagielka is a much better player than Lescott?

And is that also why Jagielka won both Player of The Year AND Players player of The Year this season whilst playing at the same club as Lescott?

Think that proves Jagielka is a better player than Lescott.

Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

This season he played good because they needed Lescott on the left. They had no choice but to play Jagielka.

For objective fans you can see the clear difference. If Everton is to get hold of Arsenal or the other fourth team in PL players like Jagielka cant be in the starting eleven. He is good but not top PL level defender. You can clearly see he has positioning problems when he meets quick players.

Robinson has improved greatly recently and should be in with a shot of the number 1 jersey.

But all our keepers tend to make mistakes anyway.

Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

yeah, that's kinda why i was asking..... there's no such thing as "safe hands" anymore, and Rob Green doesn't seem to be quite the finished article for me.

Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

With apologies to Till:
BBC NEWS | UK | England | Tyne | Road signs mock club's relegation
Quote:
A pair of comedy road signs mocking Newcastle United's relegation from the Premier League have been unveiled by cheeky Sunderland supporters.

One sign, on the A184, has an arrow pointing towards Tyneside and reads: "Sid James' Park, the biggest stadium in the 'Fizzy Pop' league'."

The other, on the road to Sunderland, says: "The Stadium of Light, the North East's only Premier League stadium."

A video of the stunt was posted on the video sharing website YouTube.

Yeah. The thing with those signs is that they're missing something - an expiry date, most likely of May 2010...

Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

Who would you like to see at Burnley then Lenny?

I heard you made an offer for Duff from Newcastle.

Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

I read the same somewhere, too - a week later and no news, so it's probably just a rumour.

As for who I'd like to see... I haven't the foggiest! A couple of decent defenders to replace Kalvenes and (our) Duff would be nice. It might be worth getting a sub for Jensen - if anything happens to him, we're up the creek.

---

In other news, the fixtures are out:

BBC SPORT | Football | Premier League | Fixtures

Burnley's first match is away at Stoke. And the second is at home to United!! Last match is Spurs at home (we'll get them!), and, as we're in Blackburn's League again, the bloodiest derby you'll ever see is on Saturday 17th October at Ewood Park, with the re-match at Turf Moor on the 27th March.

Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

Difficult start for Burnley!

The Blades have Boro away. Hate that place!

Then we have Watford at home.

Not a bad start and think we'll win them both.

Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

Difficult start? Difficult season!

---

You've got the Baggies on the 29th August - you know what needs to be done!

---

An interesting note from the Beeb at the end of each article about fixtures:

Quote:
Video highlights of every game in the Football League and SPL next season will be available on the BBC Sport website, for UK users.
One wonders how much they had to pay for the clips from other channels.
