Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

Im bitter alittle about the way the team was bought together for so many millions, the economic doping and the fact there might be 5-10 City/Real Madrid/PSG running around soon.

Im happy for old time City fans, their joy of winning something big was nice to see for someone who supports a team that won the national title 4 times in 100 years.

Still i hope City ends up as Chelsea old, weak when the money runs out in 2-4 years. Ferguson surviving another cash cow owner type team

PL is the best league i dont want to end up where crappy PL/Championship teams buy their titles in 2-4 years.....

Experience over lack of experience is a clichè because there is truth to that.
Couldn't resist. Sorry to have ruined your season Conn.

I totally understand your sentiment, although the game changed long before City did. I think that the Sky money and coverage did in fact change the whole structure of English football.

I would argue that every club who has lifted the EPL has, to some extent, bought their glory - City have simply attempted to accelerate the process.

Money does not guarantee success, but it does bring pressure to be successful, something that Mancini handled very well over the last six months.

Nah didnt ruin my season, it was just so close for poetic and epic fail at home for City. But like Swedish expert said on tv when Aguero scored you get what you pay for.

Actually having a team to dislike alot in my fav league just adds more fuel to my interest to watch soccer games. I had lost the excitement for top league fotball because i use to follow most La Liga but Real Madrid billions and Barcelona not being happy with their own talent buying the rest of the league ruined alot of my excitement.

City is a good nemesis because i know Ferguson or another team will beat them in the old school way of making teams on the long term. It will only be sweeter when City end as broke, broken team as Chelsea

You're joking right? Utd spent a fortune in the late eighties trying to win the league - When they achieved that dream, it took the pressure away and gave Fergie the time to build his teams with a longer term view in mind, because his job was safe.

No im not joking getting rich out of PL money because you are a big team is one thing. Every big team buy big players because they are historically big team. United had to win 10+ PL titles to become riches.

Economic doping is when you dont have the money because of you dont win anything and you live only on billionarie owner. Chelsea,City.

CIty, PSG have gone from weak, middle team to CL level in 2-3 years. That is simply economic doping. When you have unlimited money. Man U has big debts so they cant buy players City have 200-300 million pounds debt only this season but doesnt matter the money was never theirs to lose, their well is neverending until the owners leave.

You need watch modern football to know difference beteween acclerated City and normal big team buying 1-2 big players per season. No one could ever afford before a whole team in 2 years that cost 200-400 million pounds per player until Chelsea,City,PSG type.

If you are City fan you will never agree that the money came from nowhere and won the title. Lets not ruin the thread. Lets disagree like me and Mosaix who still have respect for each other.

Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

Connavar, apologies I wasn't trying to ruin the thread and as my earlier statement said I understand your feeling, but I'm happy to respectfully disagree.

Man Utd had a gap of what 26 years before winning the EPL and they spent an absolute fortune to oust Liverpool, who had been the dominate force.

City won the lottery in 2008 - But lets face it, it could have been anyone and I am sure that the circle will turn again. I am also sure that City's spending will adopt the same approach of those historic big clubs as they go forward.

Im happy to disagree too, i was afraid of the mods thinking we were fighting or something.

That is my problem if City wins big this fast after spending many 100s of millions so quickly and can buy a whole new team every season if they want. Everyone will go look for oil rich owners to win the lottery.

I dont have anything against the club itself how they were before 2008 or its fans. I know if i was City fan there is nothing i could to stop this. I just worry this is becoming a sickness Platini must fights now that clubs are destroying themselves just to win prestige with filthy rich owners. Nothing left of top football then.

Changing the subject (At least from City) I was disappointed to see King Kenny get the sack.

Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

Looks like we'll see an interesting manager reshuffle over the Summer - West Brom, Liverpool, and Aston Villa all want new managers, and if Chelsea lose to Bayern then I wouldn't be surprised if they joined in the fun too (after all, an FA Cup doesn't really make up for a poor league finish and no Champions League next season).

Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

As a Liverpool fan I am gutted to see him go in this fashion. The great man deserved better from his players especially the likes of Gerard who under performed in so many games. Ultimately the league table does nor lie and Daglish had to pay the price for that. The strange thing is that I think the basis of a good team is in place and my belief is that they will perform better next season.

Back to the point about Man City buying the league. Any team that wins the league in whatever era spends big to win it. In their heyday Liverpool spent big on players, paid the best wages and got results. Man Utd have done it constantly throughout the Nineties and Noughties. Ferdinand 18 million, Veron 25 million, Rooney 25 million, Carrick 18 million, Young 14 million(I think), the list is endless. Even the 3.5 million for Keane was massive money back when they signed him.

Clubs who aspire to win trophies have always needed to bankroll it. The sums just change with the different eras.

Re: Football (Soccer to those across the pond)

So the rumour is that next year, the Championship is going to be renamed the nPower Lancashire and Yorkshire League.

Blackpool lost 2-1 to West Ham in the play-off final, which is a shame for them, but it does mean that one of the stronger teams in the league is no longer in the league, and also that there are four teams within thirty or so miles of each other that all begin with "B". Derby matches ahoy!

I'm looking to tomorrow's match between Huddersfield and Sheff. United with interest.

I don't know what Kenny was telling them in the dressing room - how did we manage to perform when it matter most (ie in the cups, apart from the 60-odd minutes of shambles in the FA final) and completely capitulate in the league on so many occasions? He has to take the blame. Wouldn't mind Martinez but could ultimately be another Hodgson, Rafa could come back and be another Kenny. AVB anyone?

I wanted Blackpool to win today but West Ham deserved it in the end, especially after performing so strongly in the league all season. After all, they did finish 11 points ahead of Blackpool, but that's the beauty of the playoffs I guess.
