The Hidden Stars – Book One of the Rune of Unmaking (book 1)

This book is divided into two books, and this review will only cover the first for now, because that’s all I have read so far. It just a few chapters and is essentially a long prologue where we meet some important characters and get some more insight in the Known World.

The strongest part of the book is the vivid way of describing the landscape of the world where the story takes place. Which is quite an accomplishment if you live in a place with a landscape as dull as watching grass grow (not really my words!). With the excellent way of showing the detailed world and defining the characters, Madeline Howard creates a great atmosphere and it doesn’t take long before you find yourself part of this world; no matter how unpronounceable the names of some characters are… The detailed narrative of, to name one, the cold the heroes endure is captured so well that you will put an extra log on the fire. This is on the body writing. Let the reader feel what the heroes feel. Howard has this skill that we see so rarely.

Even though I’m just a few chapters in, I know this is going to be a very enjoyable read, and already recommend it to anyone, even when you’re not too big a Fantasy fan like me.
