Trying to find a science fiction magic book I read when I was young

Hello

I am trying to find the name of an author for a science fiction magic book I read when I was a child. I think I read a few magic books written by this author and I just can't remember his name.

One book I read about was this pencil these kids found. The pencil was dropped from a plumber who knew it was a magic pencil. You could write on something, and it would come true. The plumber wrote a certain size on the ladder, and the ladder grew. The ended up getting lost in some part of the world but found there way back. The pencil I remember was real short, and you could use the eraser, to change what you wrote.

The other book I believe written by the same author, was about some kind of flower. The kids could rise the flower, and could go different places. They would shrink to ride this flower, and you pull the tip of the petal to move the flower while you were riding it in whatever direction you wanted to. They also met a witch in this book.

Anyone have any clues?

Thanks
Qwest

I'm sorry, this one doesn't ring any bells for me at all. Of course, I didn't read a lot of YA books when I was the age for them, I came to my youth late . Hopefully someone else has a clue!
