MS Word tips

Well, I don’t know how many of you are using MicroSoft Word, but I thought this thread would be a good place to offer useful tips on using it.

Firstly - something I only just learned today - the Replace function.

Say you've named a character a certain way, but decide to change the spelling. You could go through the text, section by section, looking for the word to change. Or you can simply do this: find the EDIT menu, scroll down to the command "replace" and a dialogue box will come up. Simply type your old spelling at the top, then your new spelling at the bottom! Works for punctuation features as well.

Seriously useful - and I've only just learned it. Hopefully it's not because I'm completely stupid...

I don't have Word on my current computer but I remember a handy function in the past. I don't know if you know about it, or where abouts to find it in Word. But there is a Word Function which allows you to assign shortcut keys to write words or phrases, that you commonly use. A combination of Ctrl, Alt, Left Shift, and a letter works well, and is generally not already assigned. For example to type the phrase "Chronicles of Empire", you could push Ctrl+Alt+L Shift+E. I found this function helpful in the past when writing essays where names were commonly repeated.
