The opening chapter of BSC was absolutely gripping. It was violent, morbid, and morally confusing. This was in stark contrast of The Blade Itself's opening, which frankly threw you into the middle of a yarn that didn't properly explain itself for a while.

Normally, if a book doesn't grab me by the first few pages, I give up. I gave TBI a shot though, as the back of the book blurb sounded very enticing. I'm glad I stuck with it. Joe ended up becoming one of my favorite authors, hands down.
