The Exorcist voted scariest Halloween movie

So, what’s the scariest film you could possibly watch for Halloween tonight?

Moviepilot.com, a recommendation platform for movies and TV shows, decided to find out the answer to this question with a Facebook poll.

Almost 23,000 votes were cast over a period of three days, and nearly half of those plumped for the same horror movie: The Exorcist.

In total, almost 9,900 folks voted for the movie which centres on demonic possession and head spinning, green gunk spewing antics.

The movie has previously won a number of scariest movie polls, including ones held by Entertainment Weekly and AMC (makers of The Walking Dead), despite now being almost four decades old.

A newer offering was at number two, however, namely Paranormal Activity, the Blair Witch style shaky-cam affair which deals with an unseen demon. That registered nearly 4,000 votes.

Not far behind it on 3,300 was Halloween, which is a fairly obvious choice for All Hallows’ Eve. Nearly three-quarters of respondents voted for those three movies, with the rest of the top ten lagging behind considerably.

And the fourth placed film which manage to record nearly 900 votes? Justin Bieber Never Say Never 3D, which we’d have to agree is a truly terrifying viewing prospect.

A Nightmare on Elm Street racked up 450 votes for fifth place, closely followed by the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, another classic horror flick (which was recently remade). Insidious came next, followed by two more not so serious movies: Finding Nemo and The Jersey Shore.

Friday the 13th rounded off the top ten.

Personally, we don’t think any top ten scary movies list should be without Blair Witch, but we realise it’s a rather love or hate affair.

Or indeed Mamma Mia, for that matter.
