New Men In Black video game out spring 2012
Here come the Men In Black, the defenders of our galaxy and smartly dressed, mind-zapper wielding terminators of extraterrestrials with extreme prejudice.
And as you’re probably aware, in May next year the film Men In Black 3 is set to open, in 3D of course.
Naturally enough, where there’s a film, there’s an official game license, and quite often it’s Activision that grabs them. So it’s no surprise the company has landed the Men In Black game to come out just before the movie in the spring of next year.
As this is an initial announcement, details are scarce at the moment – but in no way will this be a cobbled together cash-in on the film, like most movie licenses. Of course not.
Instead, we quote David Oxford, Executive Vice President of Activision, as saying: “ The Men In Black franchise is an unbeatable starting point to deliver a genre-bending gaming experience with a level of production value on par with Hollywood.”
Genre-bending, no less? An action-adventure then? Thus far all Activision is actually saying is that it will be action-packed, unsurprisingly – we didn’t have it down as a heavyweight X-com style strategy affair – and will mix comedy with “edge-of-your-seat shooting excitement”, just like the film.
It will also utilize the “rich mythology” of the Men In Black universe, although it will feature an original story and won’t just be a knock-off of the film script. Familiar faces will return, as well as new foes.
But most of all, this game will feature splattering alien innards by the bucket-full when it launches on consoles and handhelds next year.
