Another science-fiction series has been signed up over in the States, by ABC, hopefully one which won’t be cancelled after a big cliffhanger at the end of the second season.
Ex-Comm is set to be a sci-fi drama with humorous overtones, and has an elevator pitch of West Wing meets the X-Files. But with a lot more tongue-in-cheek factor, we’d imagine.
What’s really got the buzz going around the net about this series, though, is the team who are on board to realise and write this project.
Deadline reports that this is Jon Favreau and Seth Green, along with Roberto Orci and Michael Dougherty.
Favreau directed Iron Man and the sequel amongst other films (and was previously an actor, playing Monica’s multi-millionaire boyfriend in one series of Friends). Green is the producer and actor famous for Family Guy (voicing Chris) and playing Dr Evil’s son in Austin Powers.
Orci is the co-creator of Fringe and his producing credits include Star Trek, and Dougherty is a script writer who worked on X-Men 2 and Superman Returns.
That’s quite the collection of talent which should hopefully ensure that Ex-Comm has plenty going for it.
The basic idea is that it follows the executive committee (Ex-Comm) of a new government and their investigation into conspiracy theories and other dark “the truth is out there” kind of stuff.
It certainly sounds like fun. Ex-Comm also reminds us of X-Com, the strategy computer game franchise where you control an organisation which goes up against extraterrestrial forces who mean us plenty of harm.
