D&D: Heroes of Neverwinter open beta begins
Social gaming is becoming increasingly popular, what with the inexorable rise of Facebook and its now 800+ million users.
And it isn’t just virtual farming games or gem stacking puzzlers that you can play on the social network now, but role-playing games, too.
Atari has just announced that its social RPG, Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of Neverwinter, has just entered open beta over on Facebook.
In other words, any Facebook member is now free to hop on over here and sign up for the game to give it a try.
Heroes of Neverwinter involves creating your own hero character from races such as the Dragonborn, Halflings and Eladrin, who then attempt to conquer a number of adventures.
There are fifty dungeons to be delved, forty monsters to be mashed, and some thirty unique skills to be… well, learned and hopefully used to good effect. Needless to say, plenty of loot is on offer for those brave enough to trammel the depths of the social RPG.
The clever little twist is that you don’t have to be a mere adventurer, more creative types can play Dungeon Master and knock up their own labyrinth filled with orcs, traps and in-jokes aplenty amongst friends, no doubt.
Exactly how much room for creativity there’ll be in the module creation, we’re not sure, but it certainly sounds like a promising social game.
Jim Wilson, President and CEO of Atari, noted: “Heroes of Neverwinter delivers a high level of depth, polish and authenticity that will fundamentally change the way players think of RPG gaming on social platforms.”
“Existing fans of the D&D franchise will find the translation compelling in all areas of the gameplay experience, while more casual gamers will find the adaptation accessible and intuitive.”
