Chris Columbus to direct The Secret Lives of Road Crews

Yes, it’s definitely an odd title for a film, and it doesn’t sound even remotely science-fiction.
But in actual fact, The Secret Lives of Road Crews is about an alien invasion of Earth. And who can we rely on to save us from this monstrous menace?
Road crew workers, that’s who. Presumably they’ll be stopping the aliens with endless lines of traffic caused by digging up sections of major roads everywhere. Providing they’re not on a tea break, that is.
Of course, the film is comedy flavoured, and the aliens in question come from deep in the Earth, with the construction workers presumably finding them and having to stop the imminent sub-terrestrial invasion with traps constructed from tar and road cones.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see how this one turns out, with the latest buzz on the net being that Chris Columbus is in discussions and could be signed up to direct.
Columbus helmed the first couple of Harry Potter movies, and his first big break was directing Home Alone. Most recently he was in the chair for Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, and speculation is he’ll preside over the sequel to that, too.
Mixing in his pieces such as Home Alone, he certainly has the pedigree to take on a tongue-in-cheek sci-fi project.
We weren’t expecting much from Percy Jackson, but enjoyed his treatment of that movie, so we’re quietly hopeful that despite the title, The Secret Lives of Road Crews will actually turn out to be worth watching.
Of course, this is still very much a rumour. We’ll keep you up to date when we hear more about the talks between Columbus and Paramount.
