Those of you who like a bit of tongue-in-cheek role-playing, with an extra side order of silliness, would do well to consider the latest offering from Hothead Games.
The Baconing is a tastily named action role-player which features DeathSpank, the knight who has previously starred in the Thongs of Virtue adventure.
Having obtained the all-powerful (and extremely tight looking) thongs, DeathSpank ignored the myths on the subject of the colourful underwear and donned all the thongs at the same time.
Not only did this likely cause him extreme trouble in the downstairs department, it also summoned an unspeakable alter-ego, the Anti-Spank.
There is, apparently, only one way to rid the world of the Anti-Spank once summoned, and that’s to travel to the Fires of Bacon and cast five of the six thongs into its fiery depths, destroying them and the evil which threatens the world.
There’s a launch trailer for the sci-fi themed adventure here. We particularly like DeathSpank’s new co-op partner Bob the marketing guy, who spews office bingo soundbites – “profit!”… “synergy!”… “focus group!” – while lasering stuff with his eyes (it looks like, anyway).
Mike Inglehart, Producer of the game, commented: “If you like Hothead’s games, be prepared for plenty of our charm, humor and adventure. If you never played a DeathSpank game before, jump in with The Baconing – it’s very, very tasty and available for everyone, regardless of what system you want to play on.”
Since DeathSpank’s last outing, the combat system has been improved, apparently, and new co-op side kicks added (such as Bob), as two player action has always been a part of the series.
The Baconing was released yesterday on Xbox Live and PSN, with the game also out on PC and Mac formats. It retails at £10 or 1200 MS Points on XBLA.
