While there’s another Star Trek movie warping in next year – probably later in 2012 rather than mid-year – rumours continue to persist regarding a new outing for the famous sci-fi franchise on the smaller screen (the last being Enterprise, some six years ago now).

Back in May, we heard the whisper that perhaps Star Trek would return as a TV series, in animated form mind you.

And now comes further spinning of the rumour mill, with it plastered all over the net and Trek sites that David Foster could be the man to put Trek back on TV.

David who? He heads up 1947 Entertainment productions, and apparently he’s concocted an extensive plan for a new series, including a five year plot arc and pilot episode.

The series would be set after Voyager, and would hark back to the classic original Star Trek at the same time, which would doubtless please many fans.

However, before anyone gets carried away, this is still in its very early stages. The material he has, extensive or not, hasn’t even been pitched yet.

And odds are that it’ll probably fall on deaf ears. But you never know…

One thing’s for sure, given the interest that buzzes up whenever speculation like this emerges, a new Star Trek series probably won’t be too far off, whether Mr Foster is the man to do it or otherwise.

I saw a poster for this on the underground and it scared the hell out of me. Some things must not be remade…
