Runespell: Overture tops Steam upon launch
Runespell: Overture, an indie developed game from Mystic box, launched last week on Steam for Mac and PC.
A sort of hybrid between poker and RPG collectible card games, it has apparently been well received upon launch, and in fact topped the Steam chart in its first two days on sale.
To detail the game in more depth, Runespell crosses strategic RPG card battles with real cards and a Poker style game, throwing in an epic running story to thread those battles together.
Completing quests in the storyline earns the player power cards, which are the collectible element of the game. These can be unleashed to inflict special attacks and big damage on your opponent.
The game looks simple to play yet with some tactical depth, and the graphics pretty polished too. Combat is visually depicted above the cards complete with fancy animations for the various lightning bolts and suchlike you can chuck about.
Mystic Box explains the game in a nutshell as: “A Hybrid between RPG, Collectible Cards and Poker gameplay. By combining casual and core mechanics, RSO allows for short bursts of active play or long sessions of questing and battles.”
The developer is now working on content updates and bringing multiplayer to the game, as well as porting to other platforms aside from the PC and Mac.
If you want to grab yourself some mystical poker action, Runespell: Overture is available at the budget price of £7.99 on Steam. There’s also a demo on there if you want to try before you buy.
