Bodycount trailer out, release date confirmed
The upcoming shooter from Codemasters, Bodycount, has had its release date confirmed, as well as an E3 trailer featuring in-game footage posted.
The date to mark in your diaries, and to schedule a delivery of body-bags for, is September 2nd (with the game coming out slightly earlier on August 30th in the States).
Big machineguns, lots of things exploding, destructible scenery and all manner of fast-paced blasting action features in the trailer. There’s a high-tech futuristic vibe, and it’s all a little reminiscent of Brink, Bethesda’s shooter which we’ve been dabbling with recently.
Bodycount’s philosophy is to put the fun back into running and gunning, rather like Bulletstorm but not quite so extreme.
The campaign will centre around chasing the enigmatic “Target”, a bad guy who has been manipulating the world in various ways and must be stopped. It’s a cross-continental shooter, moving from Africa to Asia and into futuristic type territory such as the Target base which is (presumably) shown in the latter half of the trailer.
Chaining kills and pulling off head shots and other skilful moves will unlock player upgrades, and getting the maximum bodycount in the minimum amount of bullets will see you at the top of a level’s online leaderboard.
That seems to be the main unique hook here, although nothing sounds massively different to anything we’ve seen before (and it’s all a bit Bulletstorm, as we’ve already mentioned).
Still, this could be a surprise package, you never know. Both competitive and co-operative modes are promised online, so it’s good to see co-op getting a look in.
Bodycount will be out on September 2nd on PS3 and Xbox, but PC gamers are out of luck on this one.
