Hellgate MMOG beta begins on Thursday
T3 Entertainment has announced the launch of the open beta for Hellgate, the rusty gates of which creak open on Thursday.
If Hellgate sounds familiar it should do, as it’s a revitalisation of Hellgate: London, the title launched by EA some four years ago which flopped and had its servers closed down.
T3 bought up the property and intends on making it a free-to-play MMOG for North American and European gamers to enjoy.
If you’ve forgotten what Hellgate was like (or never saw it in the first place), it’s a futuristic action RPG where demons have been loosed upon the Earth, and mankind has escaped underground. Literally to the London underground, where players blast away various hellspawn in first or third-person.
T3 has stated that the open beta introduces two new game modes, a player-versus-player duel area and zombie-infested “cow room”. The duel area features four different maps, with team-based combat being the order of the day.
Successful duellists will earn PvP points that can be spent on in-game items and pets to show off.
The bizarrely named cow room will feature a horde of oncoming undead shufflers and some manner of horrible boss creature, all of who must be faced while a sandstorm whips around making visibility difficult. Those who can survive the milky room will apparently be rewarded with new and super-rare drops.
Along with the new game modes, four special events are also planned to celebrate the launch of the beta. There’ll be a power-levelling challenge, and the Guild Reservoir event will encourage teamwork on a large-scale, as guilds of thirty-plus members collaborate to earn some tasty rewards.
Either that, or to have a big fight about the idiot who ruined everything by pulling too early.
If you fancy kicking some demon butt, then head on over to the Hellgate website on Thursday and sign yourself up.
