Risk, the film of the board game

Yes. They’re making a film out of Risk, apparently, to join a number of other flicks based on board games which may or may not be happening (Battleship definitely will, it’s due for release in just under a year).

It seems that the absence of any real creative ideas or that strange stuff called inspiration has led studio exec types to ponder just what already created stuff can be remade in one way or another.

Admittedly this isn’t an obvious one. How they can make a film out of different sized plastic counters tramping around the world is an interesting question (if Risk had wooden counters, that would be a different matter, many actors would fit in perfectly).

Of course, the theme of the movie will be global conquest, not plastic counters, with a Wargames type vibe (possibly).

Sony has the rights and apparently has now taken the step of hiring John Hlavin (that’s his name, not a typo) to write the script. Hlavin’s previous writing credits include Underworld: New Dawn.

Other possible board game movies underway include Monopoly and Clue(do). We’re not making this up, you know. More’s the pity.

Personally we can’t wait for Ludo the film – a colourful and heart-warming family movie about separation and a subsequent tearful reuniting.

Or Chess, a spicy tale of diplomatic manoeuvring within the king’s court, with some gratuitous erotica thrown in (it’d be a pawn film, you see).

Or failing that, Snakes and Ladders on a Plane.
