Star Trek game to use Move phaser on PS3
Paramount has unveiled a Star Trek game at E3 due for release next year.
Simply called Star Trek, it will follow on from the story of JJ Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek film, with Kirk and Spock attempting to stop an enemy race who wish to conquer the galaxy. Kirk and Spock will tackle the alien menace co-operatively.
The story is being penned by God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk and the writers on the 2009 Star Trek, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Digital Extremes of Bioshock 2 and Unreal Tournament fame is developing the game.
Tom Lesinski, President of Paramount Digital Entertainment, noted that “most teaser trailers feature zero gameplay”, but the one the company rolled out at E3 does indeed feature all in-game action, even though it’s labelled as in a pre-alpha state.
The trailer, which you can have a peek at here, shows a lot of blasting action, along with a chap whizzing through the vacuum in a spacesuit, and a ship flying sequence. It all looks very action-oriented.
On the PS3, a Move Phaser attachment is planned, so motion control enabled gamers can really be immersed in the shooting action. Or that’s the theory, anyway.
Star Trek will be out on PS3, Xbox and PC at some point in 2012.
