The BBC have confirmed that Matt Smith has signed up to play the character of Doctor Who for a third season.

The new series will comprise of fourteen episodes and a Christmas special, with executive producer Steven Moffat tweeting “I’ve got a plan and I’m NOT TELLING YOU WHAT IT IS.”

There are still six episodes to run in the current season, which will be aired in the Spring. There is, of course, also a Christmas special planned as well.

While this won’t be much of a surprise to fans, with members of our forum expecting Matt Smith to continue into 2014, it does put to rest rumours created by the Sun newspaper that Matt Smith was looking to leave early to move to Hollywood.

In the meantime, we would comment on recent events in the current season, not least the cliffhangar of episode 7 which revealed the truth behind River Song.

However … spoilers, spoilers. :)
