News has reached us that filming is underway on Tim Burton’s star-studded adaptation of Dark Shadows.
Originally a TV series back in the late sixties which developed a cult following, the stars of the movie include Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer and others.
The sixties series, described by some as a gothic soap opera, featured ghosts and then vampires, werewolves and other denizens of the night which have become wildly popular over the last few years.
The story is that of a family in 1752 leaving England for a new life in America, but a curse soon rears its ugly head and their lives take a turn for the much worse. The main character is turned into a vampire and buried alive – well, buried undead – and finally freed after over two centuries, let loose into the bewildering world of 1972 (avocado bathroom suites everywhere).
The Warner Bros flick casts Depp as the vampire, the character he was apparently obsessed with as a child. It’s being filmed entirely in England, on location and at Pinewood Studios, and is slated to be released this time next year.
The screenplay was written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who penned the best-selling mash-up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
