Dark Energy Digital has announced that Hydrophobia Prophecy will be released on Steam later today, at 6pm this evening, in fact.

Prophecy is a “comprehensive reinvention” of the original futuristic water-themed survival game with its fancy liquid physics.

The remake of Hydrophobia has a raft of new features (appropriately), the main ones being upgraded graphics, a rework of the voice acting, a rewritten back-story, new levels and additional gameplay mechanics to spice things up a bit.

The original Hydrophobia seems to have been something of a love or hate affair, receiving widely varying review scores from critics. Perhaps the layer of polish will persuade some of the haters not to be quite so down on the title.

At any rate, the developer will hear players’ opinions via a new feedback system which has been bolted on. “Darknet” allows players to deliver their opinions at any point in the game, and the devs promise they’ll be listening. You can’t say fairer than that.

The game is currently available for pre-order on Steam at the discounted price of £7.63 before its launch tonight. A PSN version is to follow (just as well that wasn’t due out today).
