Doctor Who will be 50 years old come 2013. The TV show that is, not the Time Lord, who is about 1,000 years old, and at the same time, ageless.
Anyway, for its half a century milestone, the plan is to do a Doctor Who special with, well, something very special about it. Rumours have been doing the rounds that a multiple Doctor story is on the cards.
David Tennant has certainly hinted at coming back for an episode, but if fans were hoping his predecessor Christopher Ecclestone would too, then they’re in for a disappointment.
Doctor Who TV reports that in a Graham Norton interview on Radio 2, Ecclestone made it quite clear that he wouldn’t be coming back to the show. When asked about the possibility, he said: “No, never bathe in the same river twice.”
Ecclestone has previously stated that he didn’t enjoy the environment the Doc Who cast and crew had to work in, and it seems that feeling definitely isn’t water under the bridge even now. It’s a pretty definite answer.
Ah well, we’ll just have to go back to enjoying the current series and incumbent Doctor Matt Smith, who has very much grown on us since his first appearance, where he was over-trying on the quirky front. Mind you, we still hate the bow-tie.

I guess his reasons are his own, but it’s still sad that he won’t drop in briefly. There’s a sort of tradition with the 3-doctor reunion, and the almost 5-doctor reunion shows. You can’t have a time traveler without running into himself from time to time! Mind you, bow-ties are cool.
