Bulletstorm is the new shooter from Epic Games, the architects of Gears of War and Unreal, and if you’ve been waiting to try it, the demo is out now on Xbox Live (and PSN tomorrow).
Bulletstorm is designed as an intense and over-the-top shooter, with huge guns, lead spraying everywhere, and doubtless body parts too.
The game boasts three modes of play: a single player “pulp sci-fi” campaign, the “anarchy” multiplayer mode, and a novel concept called the echo mode. This tracks and compares different players’ scores as they complete locations in the game, so you’ll be able to match your performance up to the best even in the campaign.
A cool idea, in theory, but a potentially depressing one when you discover that your all-guns-blazing super-accurate run down that long corridor actually ranked 36,829th in the world. But hey, practice makes perfect…
The demo offers a small slice of this echo mode, with the player traversing a collapsed building. 45 “skillshots” are available in the demo, those being innovative ways of killing enemies with OTT moves. Pulling them all of will doubtless be quite some task.
The full game of Bulletstorm is out on February 25th on Xbox, PS3 and PC.
