JoWood has announced that SpellForce 2: Faith in Destiny has been delayed until next year.

Actually, the company said it has extended the release date – the glass is always half full at JoWood – until January 2011. This comes after several delays this year (originally, the game was expected to arrive in April 2010).

Faith in Destiny is a standalone add-on for the game which is set four years after the Shaper’s defeat. With the portal network having collapsed, and the islands being cut off from one another, a horde of attackers emerges from the depths of Hell to assault Eo.

A multitude of new features are promised, including new spells, units, buildings and of course missions. If you’ve never played SpellForce before, it’s a smartly executed hybrid of RTS strategy and RPG character building and loot grabbing elements. There’s enough inventory sorting to please even the most ardent Diablo role-playing fan.

Stefan Berger, Head of Publishing at JoWood, commented: “This expansion to the series has been built from the ground up as an add-on to offer new content to the many fans who still love SpellForce. They get new units, new monsters, factions, new maps and of course an entire new campaign story for the game universe they love. And who knows? Maybe this add-on could be a kind of introduction, or bridge maybe, to something much bigger!”

We’d expect there will be a SpellForce 3 in the pipeline…
