Deep Silver and developer Egosoft have revealed a new compilation to be published based on the famous X series of space trading and combat games.

The X Superbox is labelled as a special collector’s edition, which contains every X game patched and fully up to date, plus a range of additional goodies.

These titles include the original X: Beyond the Frontier, X:Tension (its expansion pack), X2: The Threat (the second game), X3: Reunion (the threequel), and X3: Terran Conflict (a standalone expansion).

The latest version of X3: Terran Conflict includes a new set of missions entitled Balance of Power, and a Dead is Dead mode.

The latter is a special challenging setting for the hardcore where when your character dies, that’s it, game over. Cleverly, it allows you to save via Valve’s Steam service, you just can’t revert to a save after you’ve snuffed it. Obviously you’ll need a Steam account to play this way, though.

All games in the X Superbox will be compatible with Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit), Vista and XP.

Along with all the gaming goodness, the compilation comes with a bonus X Encyclopedia, written by Helge Kautz, author of books based on the X universe. It’s 300 pages long and covers historic events, famous personalities and so on.

A bonus DVD will also come loaded with additional content, including modding tools, game guides, community created artwork and videos, popular scripts and mods. It’s certainly a comprehensive package.

Expect the X Superbox to be blasting into a shop near you on October 8th, priced £34.99.

    That sounds awful!
These games are great but take an enormous investment of time to play through. The idea of not being able to revert to an earlier gamesave sounds like insanity to me!

Still, this is a lot of game for the price, if you have the time.

My superbox arrived yesterday and it’s great to have all the games together in a complete package. You even get a poster included too.

The games can all be played in the usual fashion – requiring lots of time but well worth it. The ‘Dead is Dead’ mode is simply another way to play the game if you run out of ideas..?!

Seriously, these games can cover months if not years if you are like me and have to have a normal working life!

Brilliant package for a crazy price. Buy it now!
