Quantum Leap movie in the pipeline
Scott Bakula fans can rejoice – sort of – because it appears there is a Quantum Leap film in the works. It was bound to happen, given the current vogue for resurrecting everything from the eighties (well, and early nineties in this case).
Bakula revealed this information at the recent Comic-Con in San Diego, Two Cents.com reports. (Yes, we’re a little late with this, but thought it was definitely worth bringing to your attention).
The bad news is that Bakula is now considered too old to play the role of Sam (“Oh boy!”), so it’ll be someone else which will doubtless be pretty weird to watch for fans of the original. However, both Scott and Dean Stockwell (who played Al) will have a part in the movie somewhere.
Don Bellisario, who created the original TV series, is currently working on the film script. Should be interesting to see how it turns out, and exactly how the fuzzy-edged show translates to a modern audience.
The danger is they don’t quite get it, and nostalgic fans don’t like the fact that Bakula isn’t starring. Hopefully things will work out, because we wouldn’t want the last leap to be a sour one.
Now, we’ve been humming the theme tune to the show subconsciously the whole time writing this piece, who else is doing the same? Own up! We shudder to think what mangled version of that a modern film will manage…
