EA has named and dated the follow up to American McGee’s Alice, the rather trippy action adventure which was released way back in the year 2000.

Legendary game designer McGee – who also created the ultimate duel level for the original Quake, the Bad Place (DM4) – is the Co-Founder of Spicy Horse Games, the outfit producing Alice: Madness Returns.

The game will maintain the dark style of the original, stepping things up a notch with a journey through a shattered and corrupted Wonderland, as the eponymous girl tries to uncover the truth behind her tortured psyche and her family’s death.

McGee says: “Alice is a classic fiction, infinitely rich with memorable characters, places and experiences. Our approach to Alice: Madness Returns takes this colourful world and reinvents it with psychotic personalities and pervasive insanity.”

Highly detailed, elaborate environments are promised, as are epic battles and deadly weapons. Of course, we’d expect nothing less.

Alice: Madness Returns will be out at some stage in 2011 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
