Jagex Games, the producer of RuneScape, has announced that it is developing a new sci-fi MMORPG.

Like RuneScape, Stellar Dawn will be a browser based game, and it’ll be mostly free to play when it’s released at some point in 2011.

Mostly free to play meaning that the large majority of the content won’t be charged for, but some areas will.

Stellar Dawn promises deep and compelling science fiction storylines, vast worlds to explore, and a combat-driven game. A variety of different gameplay styles will be available to the player, whether they prefer to go it solo or co-operate in a party.

CEO of Jagex, Mark Gerhard, commented: “Stellar Dawn will be Jagex’s biggest release to date and everyone at the studio is absolutely electric with excitement as we enter the final stages of development.”

“We are really happy with how well Stellar Dawn has come together. The team has deftly blended art, content and technology to provide the entertaining, long-term game appeal that we have become famous for. As we approach the public launch next year we will be revealing many more details about the game to the community.”

If you want to sign up for a shot at taking part in the beta test, you can do so at the game’s website.

Jagex has just scooped the Development Legend accolade at the Develop 2010 awards in Brighton, yesterday.
