Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect book of the video game announced
Random House is planning to publish a novel based on the famous Deus Ex video game series.
Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect will be written by James Swallow, and will be out in 2011. The story takes up the mantle of the games, and is set in a cyberpunk dystopia of the near future where technology pushes the limits of human potential (they even have vacuum cleaners which empty themselves).
Of course, there’s a dark side to all this, with secret conspiratorial powers coming together to warp things to their own end. Which is where the two heroes of the book enter in full thwarting mode – Anna Kelso is a secret service goonette, and Ben Saxon a special ops soldier.
James Swallow has previously penned the Sundowners Series, and has written scripts for the likes of Doctor Who, Stargate and Star Trek. When it comes to video games, he also worked on Killzone 2.
The latest much anticipated game in the Deus Ex franchise, Human Revolution, was unveiled at the recent E3 games show, where it snaffled no less than 13 awards. The High Def trailer is pretty impressive, too.
