UnDeadwood, the setting for the latest iPhone and iPad game from developer Tall Chair, is a bit of a one horse town.
Cowboys vs Zombies is a tower defence game, and as such, could be accused of flogging a dead horse; or at least, an undead one. However, it tries to put a different spin on a well thumbed genre.
The twist is that the environment adds much to the strategy, and the placement of your defending cowboys, who shoot the oncoming zombie horde, is of vital importance.
The onrushing shufflers slowly rip the town’s buildings apart, reducing the number of safe places your cowboys (and cowgirls) have to defend from. Choosing which buildings to fight for, and when to retreat, is apparently a key tactical consideration.
As the sheriff of UnDeadwood, you’ll be able to hire different types of cowboys and upgrade them, as well as choosing their defensive vantage points.
Zombie bosses also need to be dealt with, and the sheriff has to take them down in one-on-one battles. The whole game is rendered in 3D, and looks quite a neat little affair.
Cowboys vs Zombies is expected to grace Apple’s smartphone, along with the iPod Touch and iPad, later this month.
